Some of the benefits of walking include improving circulation, mobility, core strength and even boosting energy levels and mood. It is also a great way to improve health and overall wellbeing.
It is great to be able to enjoy this country in all its season, including winter! So here are a few tips to help you step out and enjoy the fresh, crisp air while moving you body:
- Set goals and track your progress – walking each day is a commitment and your whole body will thank you for it. Setting goals and tracking your progress can be very encouraging and motivating.
- Start slowly – walking doesn’t need to take up too much time. Start slowly and gradually build up your walking pace and duration.
- Warm up and cool down – warming up slowly raises your body temperature and may help reduce risk of injury while cooling down allows the body to gradually bring down the heart rate.
- Stay hydrated – this is just as important in winter as it is in the warmer months. Make sure to drink water before starting your walk and re-hydrate when you have completed your walking session.
- Be prepared – check the weather conditions before you begin your walk. Wear appropriate footwear and clothing so you are comfortable.
- Be mindful of your posture – maintain an upright posture throughout and breathe fully and deeply.
